About Camerata del Sol
The concept behind Camerata del Sol originates with its co-founders, Daniel Vega-Albela & Amalia Zeitlin, who envisioned bridging a gap in our region. Their goals were to provide an outlet for both aspiring and seasoned professionals to perform chamber music and to make this genre accessible to the community. Over the past seven years, this vision has seen massive growth, with over 200 concerts at little or no cost to the public. Our repertoire includes both well-known pieces and works by lesser-known composers and contemporary artists.

Aside from our mission to bring chamber music to our region, we are unique in our flexibility as an ensemble; we are able to play the full range of chamber music: from quartets to small sinfoniettas. We have about eight core musicians for smaller works and then collaborate with additional local artists for larger pieces.
Since its inception in 2017, no other group like Camerata del Sol has existed in this area, and that remains true today. Our growth has been driven by sacrifice, determination, and the grassroots support of our community. We continue to be committed to enriching our region and inspiring young people through this art form, and we rely solely on the support of people like you, local businesses, and grants to maintain and expand our mission. You can see our mission more fully laid out below...
Bring Chamber Music to the Border Regions
of Las Cruces & El Paso
Chamber Music as we know it today goes back to the 15th century. It is a unique, virtuosic, intimate form of classical music that was written for friends to play together in their homes during the mid to late 18th century. The style of chamber music includes a wide variety of music from the Baroque Period until today. It ranges from a soloist to a quartet to twenty-five people playing a small symphony. It is our goal to preserve both the stories & tradition of this music; and, to enrich our community with performances in both concert venues & homes.
Bring High Quality String Instruction to Young People
In order to have a good chance of professional success in the music world, students need to be able to study with a good teacher prior to middle school-- which is the norm in this region. Since 2021, we have partnered with NMSU to provide a free, high-quality string program for 3rd through 5th graders at Uni Hills Elementary School. Students who show dedication and talent have the opportunity to study privately with one of our amazing musicians for little to no cost. Our goal is to expand this program and its ability to give opportunities to our current students in Las Cruces and to also be able to start a program in El Paso.
Bring in Guest Artists
We bring together the best musicians in the Las Cruces & El Paso Regions, some nationally recognized, who have studied in the many of the most prestigious schools in America. We also endeavor to bring in specialists for particular concerts so that we can continue to expand our expertise in certain genres & provide the most authentic experience to our audiences.
Play Lesser Known Composers
It is our mission to make known composers and works who are not played as often as the "standard repertoire," giving them a chance to be heard & their beauty felt. The same is also true for minority composers. Each year we have a "Black History Month" concert featuring works of old and new African American Composers. We have also done concerts featuring women composers and Jewish composers.
Build Culture in Our Region
We are the premier chamber orchestra in the Las Cruces & El Paso Region. We are uniquely able to provide high-quality chamber music from a variety of genres for our community. But we also endeavor to expose more people to this music, reach more young musicians with this music, and help our region become a hub of culture in the Southwest. One way we want to give back to both our audience and young people is by providing an Annual Chamber Music Festival, beginning in July 2025.
